Increasing demand for Cretan grown avocados and citrus

Around 10 years ago, Papastamatakis saw the rising demand for avocados and they have been seeing year on year success ever since.

"We are really positive about our avocado program, with demand and production increasing year on year by around 3,000 tons. In the last 5 years, we have reached over 20,000 tons and we are currently working on creating a brand, serving the Balkans and Western Europe. As our brand and production grows, we would like to continue our expansion into new markets," shared Vangelis Papastamakis.

The company offers Zutano, Fuerte and Hass avocados grown in Chania, Crete.

Papastamatakis was originally founded in 1968 as a marketing company for citrus fruits from Crete, and by 1995, they began maturing bananas for Dole and Chiquita, but also having exclusive rights to bananas from Del Monte and the Cyprus Banana Producers Cooperative.

"We work primarily with wholesalers and supermarkets and the pillars of our company is quality and consistency. We started with own our production of lemons from Chania (Crete) in 2014, cooperating with privately owned farms and we continue to expand our growing areas with an eye on being able to serve both the Greek and foreign markets in the future," concludes Vangelis Papastamatakis.
