Michoacan is Mexico's biggest producer of peaches

Pascual Sigala Paez, the Secretary of Rural Development and Agricultural food (Sedrua) of the government of Michoacan, stated that Michoacan was the national leader in the production of peaches with more than 32,566 tons. He also said the state had more than 3,859 hectares devoted to this crop, mainly concentrated in 40 municipalities, and that the most notable production areas were Zinapecuaro and Zitacuaro.

Michoacan is a state with many microclimates, which has allowed it to become a producer and exporter of fruits and vegetables to more than 45 countries, Sigala Paez added.

Michoacan leads production, followed by Zacatecas, with 25 thousand tons of peach; Chihuahua with 23 thousand; and Mexico and Puebla, which produce 22 thousand tons each.

Mexico has more than 32,122 hectares devoted to the cultivation of this fruit and, as mentioned above, the main producing states after Michoacan are Zacatecas, Chihuahua, the State of Mexico, Puebla, Morelos, Chiapas, Guerrero, Tlaxcala, and Aguascalientes.

The head of the agricultural policy of Michoacan stressed that Zinapecuaro was the entity's main producer of peaches with a cultivated area of 1,254 hectares and with a production of 12,433 tons. Meanwhile, Zitacuaro has 455 hectares and a production of 3,664 tons.

Tacambaro has a cultivated area of ​​280 hectares and a production of 2,160 tons.
