China: Gongcheng persimmons unmarketable

The Gongcheng persimmon is growing well this year, but farmers are not excited by this. The reason is that the price of Gongcheng persimmon collapsed in December. This year the fruit of many farmers could not be harvested because of continuous rain for 20 days.

This cheerless condition in the persimmon market this December is down to the following reasons:

1. The northern winter is colder, so fewer people eat persimmon.

2. In this period other fruits enter the market in large volumes, which infringes on the market share of persimmon.

3. The persimmons purchased in November suffered from the southern wind. This unusual weather caused the fruit to become mildewed, and fruit merchants suffered a disastrous loss.
