Papaya export to Europe
HF Brasil publishes information for different types of fruits and vegetables and how they are received in the European market. “Brazil is one of the world’s largest producers of papaya. Yet, from the total volume of papaya that is produced in Brazil, only a small percentage is exported.”
It is explained in this publication that the main export regions are in the states of Espírito Santo and do Rio do Grande do Norte, which send about 60% of their volume to Europe. The Rio Grande do Norte region has the second position mainly because of its excellent quality of the papaya Formosa. In addition, the demand and preference for this variety is increasing. Another important factor is the logistics aspect, as the papaya production is nearby the main export ports, making export by sea and air possible.
“The European Union usually imports the biggest volumes of papaya during the fall and winter period of the Northern Hemisphere, when there is low production of more regional fruits.” It is explained that there is some monthly import throughout the whole year. HF Brasil explains that the constant papaya production favours the year round supply of fruits.
The total volume of papaya import has increased significantly in the European Union. The same goes for the Brazilian fruit trade in general says HF Brasil.
