Chile gets ready for arrival of Chinese pears

Representatives of ASOEX held a meeting with the political advisers, businesses and trade of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Chile with the aim of finalizing details of the actions that will be carried out to inform the Chilean consumer of the arrival of the first Chinese pears in Chile.

The meeting was held in the offices of the Chinese Embassy in Chile, and it was attended by Li Wuji, the Political Advisor and Chargé d'Affaires AI of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Chile; Liu Rutao, an Economic and Commercial Counselor, Ronald Bown, the President of ASOEX, and Miguel Canala-Echeverria, the General Manager of ASOEX.

Ronald Bown said that these actions were part of the policy of commercial reciprocity that exists between the governments of Chile and China. "In this framework of reciprocity, the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile, in a joint work with the Agricultural and Livestock Service, have found it convenient to support the first importation of Chinese pears to Chile. We are talking about two containers. The first one is already in our country, and the second one will arrive in the first week of December," he said.

The support will consist in the coordination of promotion and tasting actions of the Chinese product in various retail outlets in Santiago, which will be carried out from December 2017 until mid-January 2018, Bown added.

"The containers have three high quality pear varieties that Chile doesn't produce, and that will surely be an opportunity for the national consumer to enjoy new types of high quality pears," he said.

The representative of ASOEX, also highlighted that, as part of these actions of reciprocity, they were also negotiating the entry of Chilean pears into China. These negotiations are well on track.
