China: Giant wild mushrooms appear in Yunnan province

In the early morning on Ocotber 22nd, a pile of giant wild mushrooms was discovered in a small village called Xiaoluoyiping in Tengchong county in Baoshan city (Yunnan province). The plant was as high as a child and attracted the attention of the people.

Inspections made by experts from the botanical research center from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Kunming have confirmed that this wild giant is the Saint George's mushroom.

This kind of mushroom mainly grows in the tropical and subtropical zones. The Saint George's mushroom is also perfectly edible. Staff members from the Propaganda Department from the municipal committee in Tenchong have explained that the heavy rainfall during winter and autumn have caused the mushrooms in Tenchong to grow in abundance, especially the macrolepiota. Prices can go up to 200 RMB (25 EUR) per kilogram.
