Cherries from Chile sold at €25/kg

Chilean cherries have arrived on the Italian market. While packaging certainly looks good, we have no idea whether it tastes good too, as the fruit is placed in heat-sealed bags.

In a market in northern Italy, we found two types of cherries from the southern hemisphere, and from Chile in particular. The first ones were packaged superbly.

A product suitable for a precious gift. A cardboard box includes two smaller boxes with handles and tongue & groove closing, containing 2.5 kg of first-category cherries each.

The batch date read November 16th and we saw them on December 6th. The price was €25/kg. The fruit was placed in a sealed cellophane bag.

The packaging of the second batch from Chile was nice but plainer. In this case, the price was €20/kg and the batch date was November 22nd. The fruit was placed in heat-sealed cellophane bags. Grade was measured to the mm (30 to 31.9). The cherries came from Las Cabras and the producer was identified with code 512.

In both cases, the produce looked very good. A wholesaler reported having sold various crates, mostly to fresh produce boutiques.
