Southern Italy growing in the agricultural and food sectors

South-Italy seems to be recovering, thanks to the agricultural and food sectors. Things might continue to improve over the next few years if transport management follows the National logistics plan. This is what emerges from the Osservatorio Banche Imprese (Obi) 2016 report. Despite the positive news, however, it looks like the situation will remain uncertain until 2020.

"But there are a few positive signals, many of which connected to progress in the agricultural and tourism sectors. In the south, the GDP is expected to grow by 1% against a national average of 1.5%. Employment will only grow by 0.5%. The most dynamic southern region will be Sardinia with 1.2%, while the most static will be Molise and Basilicata. The higher growth will be in Lazio and Marche (+2%) and Emilia-Romagna (+1.7%).

Logistics could be driving up the development of the Country. Over the past months, the Cipe approved the €11.5 billion Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport Operational Plan 2014-2020.

It is a plan to improve the road and railway network, thus improving accessibility to the territories and Europe. The Operational Plan is divided into themes and lines of action according to the various sectors and interventions.

The total figure will be divided as follows: road works €5.331 billion, railway works €2.056 billion, securing existing infrastructures €1.315 billion, urban and metropolitan transport €1.218 billion, local public transport renewal and national railway safety plan €1.3 billion and other interventions for €280 million.

While it is not logistics per se, suitable infrastructures are the basis on which to organise logistics.
