Italy: Lower stocks of Abate pears than last year

Italian Abate Fetel, Williams, Kaiser and Decana pears are available on the market, while the commercialisation of the Conference variety hasn't started yet.

"Stocks of Abate are 20% lower than last year. Sales are supported by a good quality and shelf-life, and prices are increasing slightly. The campaign will continue until mid-April for produce destined to be exported and until late April on the domestic market," explains an operator.

Volumes of Williams pears are 24% lower than 2015. "Sales depend on the grade - they are good for 55/75 grades, while they are slower for 75 mm+."

Kaiser are also experiencing a 24% drop. "European consumers are less interested in this variety. Only 70+ grades are required. Commercialisation will continue until late April."

The commercialisation of Conference pears hasn't started yet, but stocks of Decana are 38% lower than last year and grades 75+ are doing well.
