Intervention measure for Spain: 61 million euro

Since the boycott, the EU has given 393 million euro in support to the sector through purchasing schemes. Of that 393 million euro, 61.6 million euro went to Spain, according to Member of the European Commission Phil Hogan in response to questions from Spanish Euro-MP Ramón Luis Valcárcel Siso (PPE).

According to the Spanish party, support for the cultivators is being reduced too quickly. The Member of the European Commission argues that the reduction is parallel to the construction of the intervention compensation under the GMO measure for fruit and vegetables. Last year, Spain could take 22,900 tonnes of tomato, carrot, bell pepper and cucumber from the market under the intervention measure. This year that volume is only 6,900 tonnes.
