More than 7,500 Austrian shoppers voted online and submitted a total of just under 16,000 ratings for the various retail chains. Just like last year, Lidl was able to assert itself in the category "Discount Store" and this year was even able to win the overall award. This pleased Christian Schug, the Chairman of the Executive Board of Lidl Austria. "This is super - a double win is of course always great! Our customers value the top price-quality ratio and the variety of goods we offer and our friendly employees in our various branches have also convinced them. For us, this is both incentive and reward to keep working hard and keep trying to improve, our customers can depend on that." The award of Retailer of the Year is of course also of great importance to the employees, "our thanks go to our committed colleagues who always do their best. They are the true ambassadors for this company and this award goes to show that Lidl Austria works very well as a team", added Harald Kirsch, Sales Manager at Lidl Austria.
There were six different categories to vote in and the retail chains considered needed to have at least seven branches in Austria. From April to September 2016, consumers have assessed the companies in terms of nine different criteria: price-performance ratio, price level, promotions and offerings, range, service, innovation, staff expertise, customer-friendliness and atmosphere. Based on the average ratings of the individual criteria, the winners are determined within the categories and an overall winner is also decided. The "Retailer of the Year" award is one of the largest consumer surveys in Europe and is gaining in importance - not only nationally but also internationally.
