Italy: New machines at Urbinati

From the first sower that used the motor of a vacuum cleaner, to the modern technologies exported worldwide - Urbinati is a true success story. The company produces equipment for the nursery garden sector and we have had the chance to visit it during an Open Day.

ANTHEA 1600 Sower
This prototype was presented yesterday for the first time. The machine can sow up to 1600 containers an hour, thus exceeding the standard 1100/h. The conveyor is safer and the sowing cylinder can be changed according to the type of container.

"A filling system places peat in the cells, then a roller marks them, creating the space for the seed. The cylinder has a series of holes for the seeds and a guiding system makes sure there is only one seed per hole. An air-jet makes the seed fall into the mark. Covering and watering systems can also be installed," explains Lanfranco Ferri, one of the designers.

The machine was developed to meet specific needs. A nursery gardener asked for a machine that could work quicker than the others available on the market. He didn't have to ask twice - in just a few months, Urbinati created the prototype which will be available on the market soon.

Potting machine
This range is quicker and more precise than other existing machines. It can fill 4000 pots on average, but it all depends on different parameters. Peat is loaded on a hopper and pots are filled on a carousel. A brush system removes excess peat. Augers then create a whole for the plants, which are put in place by an operator.

The line presented at Urbinati is also equipped with a labeller, a pot pre-cleaning system and a post-labelling brush.

If you do not need to transplant but you need to sow, it can be combined with a sower. Vermiculite covering follows and there is also a grouping system.
