"This melon isn't a mix of existing varieties, but a variety of its own. Our Brazilian supplier is the only one producing this variety at the moment and takes care of all the limited production," says Saskia Polak. "The soft structure and the sweetness, with a brix between 14 and 16, make it an ideal kid's melon. We are working hard to offer this melon in a smaller size, as thus far the size range is on the larger side."
Total Produce B.V. is mainly focusing on the retail with the Dino melon, but Saskia says it is also an interesting melon for cutters to work with. "We did the first tests last year and the response from customers was very positive. This year we can offer a slightly larger volume and the sales are above expectations."
