"More and more shelf space in retail for organic product"

Last year Roveg started its own separate organic department. During the Fruit Logistica the importer and exporter from Waddinxveen went all out with its organic assortment. The organically ripened mangos were presented as a novelty, among others. Besides this Roveg Organics offers organic ginger, limes, Italian lettuces and coconuts among others.

"Organic is on the rise. From Scandinavia in particular, but the demand for organic exotics from Germany is also large. Retailers are clearing more and more shelf space for organic products. Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of a healthy lifestyle and organic food meets this need. This is why it is so good that we now have more fruit available organically," says Carolynne Akinyi of Roveg Organics.

"The Dutch consumer is still hesitant. They look at the price first," continues Carolynne. "And there is added value in organics. Where you could sell conventional mangos by the pallets, organic products would be around thirty boxes at once, but the amounts of organic are rising. The product availability is a point of attention. It is difficult to supply an organic product for Brazil, but availability is increasing."

Besides the organic products, Roveg also presented a new exotic and guacamole mix for retail.
