IG International commenced exports

First Indian Kinnow mandarins available in Russia

I.G. International Pvt. Ltd. (IGIPL), one of the country’s leading names in import and export of fresh fruit has commenced exports of fresh Kinnow mandarins for the first time from India. The Kinnows are carefully selected to cater to discerning consumers looking for the highest quality fruit and are exported under the brand name ‘IG International Pvt. Ltd.’. Exports have commenced with the first container of around 26 Metric Tonnes of Kinnows shipped to Russia last week.

Kinnow is a high yield hybrid mandarin which is now cultivated extensively in several regions of Punjab. Kinnow trees are highly productive and in the right climate, these trees grow up to 35 ft high with each tree bearing as many as 1000 fruits. Unlike the more common imported mandarins, Kinnows are bigger in size and sweeter.

The Kinnow fruit requires special post harvest handling and IG International has set up a cold chain infrastructure in Abohar, Punjab in collaboration with Balaji International to overcome supply chain bottlenecks and preserve the quality of Kinnows. This will also ensure that Kinnows are available throughout the year and the pricing will be consistent as IG International is working directly with the farmers.

IG International has developed a high level of expertise in Kinnow crop and the post harvest handling of the fruit, and foresees a huge global opportunity for this wonder fruit. The company is targeting 5000 Metric Tonnes of Kinnow exports in the next couple of years.

Speaking on the occasion of the first shipment of Kinnows to Russia, Mr. G.C. Arora, Chairman, I.G. International said, “Punjab has the ideal climate for producing Kinnows. We see huge opportunity for the high quality Kinnows grown in Punjab. We have set up special post harvest handling infrastructure to ensure availability Kinnows throughout the year. The opening up of export market for this high yield fruit will prove a boon to the Kinnow growers in the State.”

Incorporated in 2000 by Gian Chand Arora, IG International Pvt. Ltd. (IGI) is a leading marketer and distributor of high quality fresh fruit across India and its brand ‘IG’ is a trusted symbol. The company handles an annual volume of over 1500 refrigerated containers (40 feet) from 20 countries and distributes these through its 27 wholesale outlets across India.
