Sweet summer tomatoes on menu from Blush

Summertime will mean fresh and flavoursome tomatoes in salads across Australia, thanks to a new range of 3 sweet and juicy varieties from Blush, the brand which the Costa Group grows its glasshouse tomatoes under.
The Sweet Berry Truss was launched in Woolworths stores in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Northern Territory and Tasmania from September, followed by Pepper Tom and Super Tom in early October.

All three varieties are hitting their stride for the outdoor summer season, but they will remain available all year round, according to Blush Marketing Manager Kylie McKnight “Blush has its own trial variety demonstration glasshouse and a close connection to major global seed companies, which allows us to trial up to 40 different varieties each year,” she said.

Part of the trial process was assessing size, shape, colour, texture and flavour against consumer preference to come up with a variety that would suit, Ms McKnight said. “Consumers are becoming more demanding in their pursuit of purchasing unique and healthy products with high flavour, presented in convenient and aesthetically appealing packaging and backed by a strong brand.”

While all three varieties will work as a staple ingredient in salads, Ms McKnight said that the Sweet Berry Truss and Pepper Tom varieties will also be used by consumers who are cooking more gourmet meals as seen on television cooking shows. “There is also a trend towards gourmet meal presentation and the Sweet Berry Truss and Pepper Tom varieties offer consumers incredibly attractive heirloom shaped tomatoes that are perfect for entertaining and adding a special touch to everyday meals.”

Super Tom, a new variety of snacking tomatoes, follows the success of Perino Sweet Snacking Tomatoes, which Blush says it launched to create the snacking tomato segment in Australia. Blush believes that success will be repeated. “Consumers are now well and truly on board with quality glasshouse grown tomatoes as a healthy snacking alternative that is perfect for adults and kids alike,” said Ms McKnight.
