Trade mission to Kenya and Tanzania for Dutch potato sector

The Nederlandse Export Combinatie (Dutch Export Combination) (NEC) and Phaff Export Marketing are organising an incoming trade mission as commissioned by the Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO) and in collaboration with the Dutch embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, taking place from 15 to 20 November 2015. The participating companies are active or want to become active in the potato sector and are coming to the Netherlands with focussed investment plans. One focus is on the purchasing of potato storage systems and seeding goods, but people are also interested in agricultural mechanisation, processing equipment and knowhow.

The bottle neck for the growth of the potato sector in Kenya and Tanzania is the lack of seeding goods and the lack of storage facilities. Storage facilities are necessary for the local potato farmers to stabilise and prevent low prices during harvest. Food security in Kenya and Tanzania can only be accomplished if the storage methods and techniques are largely improved and professionalised. Over the last 1.5 years, multiple investments of various Kenyan companies in modern storage methods at Dutch companies. They also indicated that they intended to at least double their storage capacity. More are expected to follow.
