BLE market report CW 41/15

Spanish imports loosen tension on lemon market

Lemons
The shipments from overseas lost presence. Yet the long lasting tense situation has loosened up somewhat, because the imports from Spain are increasing. Nevertheless, the availability did not correspond with the sales opportunities. The ratings remained at the high level they have been so far, or they tended upward. The price increases for the batches from South Africa and Argentina were also based in their reduced availability. The Turkish season opened up with the first Enterdonato, which were sold comparatively cheap at € 17 per 13 kg box. From the middle of the week onward, Meyer lemons rounded off the product palette. The fruits of the 3/4 calibre reached up to € 1.70 per kg.

Apples
Germany has a firm grip on events. The already comprehensive assortment grew further and had no problems in covering the demand. Quantity-induced price decreases were hardly avoidable.

Pears
Italy dominated; Germany additionally managed to sell Conference, Alexander Lucas and Williams Christ. Although availability has reduced, there were no significant changes regarding the quotations.

Table grapes
Turkish Sultana and Greek Thompson Seedless dominated the assortment, which was complemented by numerous Italian shipments such as Crimson Seedless, Michele Palieri and Sugraone. The ratings were modified only rarely.

Plums
The season came to its end, which was noticeable in the massively reduced deliveries. The demand has been noticeably limited, but it was still too strong for the availability, so that the requested prices could be raised in many places.

Kiwis
New Zealand dominated events; Italy and Greece complemented it. With a supply that covered demand, merchants frequently maintained the prices they have been up to now.

Bananas
The market was generally adequately supplied. The size of the offers broadly harmonized with the demand. The quotations mostly remained constant.

Cauliflower
The advantage of the lower temperatures is the increased demand. Parallel to this, the harvest is slowing down however. Deliveries decreased. This drove the prices up, and very clearly in the end.

Lettuce
The predominant domestic head lettuce complemented Belgian specimens. Supplying the market turned out to be quite manageable. Despite unagitated interest, the quotations could frequently remain at their level of the previous week.

Cucumbers
The mostly mid-European snake cucumbers came under pressure from growing Spanish imports. This was made more complicated by the fact that the competition from the South was turned over noticeably cheaper. Prices moved downward.

Tomatoes
In accordance with the season, the shipments from Middle Europe decreased. Based on the narrowed availability, the quotations increased especially for truss tomatoes and round tomatoes.

Capsicum
The fundamental changes in the rates moved within manageable limits. But the customer is confronted with oscillating prices on an almost daily basis, and they hardly show a common theme.

Onions
The size of the shipments has been broadly adjusted to the storage capabilities. The traders hardly deviated from the prices they have been asking thus far. The rare price decrease were closely tied to the qualities of the products.
