Moldovan apples arrive to Egypt and Bangladesh

Last week, over 40 tonnes of Moldovan apples reached the markets in Bangladesh, with stocks running out after just three days. The country has already requested another 10 batches of red apples.

The shipment of Moldovan apples to Bangladesh was facilitated by the Agricultural Competitiveness and Enterprise Development Project (ACED), a programme funded jointly by USAID and MCC.

The organization in charge of shipping the apples is currently preparing a third container and looking for more growers who can contribute to meet the high demand. It has been claimed that Bangladesh could receive 100 containers this season.

Another new destination for Moldovan apples, according to the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) is Egypt, where 600 tonnes were shipped in December 2014.

This has paved the way for other producers, who are currently in on-going negotiations for the signing of new export contracts, as reported by UNIMEDIA.

They will also maintain trade with traditional partners, such as Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Georgia, with exports to Romania considerably on the rise.
