Quebec world's second cranberry producer

Cranberry producers have had a record harvest this year and Quebec has become the world’s second biggest cranberry producer after the state of Wisconsin.

The Association of Cranberry Producers in Quebec (APCQ) announced that total production reached over 241 million pounds (organically and conventionally farmed), i.e. 55 million pounds more than the last record in 2012.

Quebec is also the world’s leading organic cranberry producer, with a harvest reaching over 27.5 million pounds, 51% more than in 2013.

In 20 years the cranberry industry has developed hugely in Quebec with an average yield per acre going from 13,000 pounds to almost 30,000 pounds (for conventional farming).

Over the same period, production acreage has increased exponentially, going from about 300 acres to 7,200.
