The mango sector in Mali generated 14 billion CFA Francs over the 2014 season. Bakary Togola, President of the Permanent Assembly of Chambers of Trade, is pleased with this record result and says that it reflects the quality production Mali has achieved.
“Today, on the global market, the label Mali mango is amongst the best sold products in the world” he states. However he did not bring up problems faced by the sector such as damages caused by insects or the tricky question of packaging, which gives a big added value to produce.
Mali produces 200,000 tons of mangoes, of which a quarter of this figure is exported and is mainly made up of grafted varieties.
