First batch of Dutch Conference-pears have arrived in China

Earlier this week the first Conference pears from Fruitmasters arrived in China. After six years of preparation and negotiation within the fruit sector, it has been officially confirmed (late October) that Chinese consumers can eat our pears. After the opening of the Chinese market, orders at Fruitmasters Geldermalsen were immediately placed.

Given the size of the market and the growing economy, there is a huge potential for the export of pears. Currently the Chinese market is a crucial export market for the Dutch pears. But first the Conference pear will have to win it's place on the Chinese supermarket shelves. There is no arguing about the taste because research has shown that the taste of the Conference pear is valued by the Chinese.

Dutch marketing

Fruitmasters has developed a package with a Dutch theme for the pears destined for distant countries. Export Manager Fabien Dumont: "In China, reliability and quality are guaranteed by Dutch products. Here we play into that notion using exclusive packaging that includes charming windmills and the colours of the Dutch flag. That way our producers can distinguish themselves in the market... "

Chinese visit Gelderland

In August, a delegation from the Chinese government visited Gelderland in order to inspect the orchards with their own eyes. Supported by literature, education, spraying license and impeccable plots there was no longer any doubt about the workmanship of FruitMasters. The opening of the Chinese market became a reality in October.
