Aldi is already very successful in Great Britain, like its competitor Lidl. The discounters have taken a lot of large supermarket chains' market shares, like Tesco, Morrions and Sainsbury's. Tesco and Sainsbury's had to deal with a lot of declining turnover figures in recent months. Tesco reported their worst figures in four decades in the first quarter of this year.
Aldi declared on Monday that the company will be investing 600 million British pound (764 million Euro) up to 2022. The discounter will open 550 new shops, which will bring the amount of shops in the country up to 1,000 over eight years. This will also double the amount of employees.
