Pink Lady apples promoted in French orchards

It was under a light rain that producers, marketers and the media visited the Pink Lady® apple orchards in the Tarn-et-Garonne. Production reaches 12,987 tons/year with 116 producers in the region. The aim of the visit was to promote the brand and local know-how. The visit concluded in Stanor, in one of their calibre and packaging chains.

The brand hopes to stand up to difficulties that the French apple market has faced this year (Russian blockade and decrease in production) thanks to their careful marketing strategies and controlled production. Consumers have enjoyed the Pink Lady apple since the end of the 90’s. The pink packaging goes with the main colour of the bi-coloured apple which was created by Australian John Cripps in 1973 through crossing a Golden Delicious with a Lady Williams. It was only in 1997 that under the French Law of 1902 an association grouping together all Pink Lady® Europe professionals was created to protect the brand.

Today there are over 2,800 producers, 12 nurseries and 14 authorised retailers involved in the development of this variety.
