CMA CGM invests in 7000 new refrigerated containers

The French shipping company group CMA CGM bought 7000 40 ft cube refrigerated containers and 6000 consumption friendly generators, reports the New York magazine 'MarineLink'. The new refrigerated containers reduce carbon emissions by 60% compared to the first generation containers. In addition, they accurately control the cooling circuit and precisely monitor the temperature in the containers.

"This investment has strengthened the position of our shipping company on the refrigerated transport market; this market is becoming more and more important, and will continue to do so in the coming years," says the senior vice President for logistics and cooling at CMA CGM. With these new refrigerated containers the French shipping company can transport fruit, vegetables, deep-freeze products, wine, flowers and medicine at optimal conditions. The shipping company has hereby increased the volume of their cooling containers by 13%, to 185,000 TEU. With this increase they can now transport 850,000 TEU cooling load per year. The CMA CGM Group is now the second largest shipping company worldwide, only behind the Danish shipping company, Maersk. Before the end of 2015 CMA CGM will have transported one million 20 ft refrigerated containers in total.
