The health authorities from Peru and the United States will get together in Washington to discuss the entry of Peruvian fig fruit, custard apple, papaya and pomegranate into the US market, as well as the recognition of Peru being free of FMD.
The Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MINAGRI), Luis Zavaleta, will lead the Peruvian delegation. Representatives from SENASA and the APHIS will also be attending the meeting.
The purpose of these meetings is to discuss issues related to sanitary and phytosanitary measures in the trade of plants, plant products and animals, in order to improve the procedures for the access of new Peruvian products to the US.
The meetings will be held in the cities of Washington and East Riverdale (Maryland) between February 10 and 12.
The delegation will also visit the Emergency Care Centre, where APHIS and SENASA will discuss technical and bilateral issues for the entry of new products.
After that, Luis Zavaleta will meet with the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Regulatory Programs and Marketing of the Department of Agriculture in Washington.
