Good demand in Spain for fresh table grapes

Sales of Spanish produce are almost at a standstill in the Barcelona wholesale market. "Prices are decreasing as, for example, chestnuts don't sell because it's too hot. Volumes of Spanish persimmons are abundant and prices dropped at least by €0.40/kg," explains Gaetano Cinturrino.

"Iceberg lettuce sells rather well, though in Italy there is still a lot of Dutch produce, which is cheaper."

"On the other hand, Spanish demand of Italian table grapes has been good - it tripled in the last two weeks. The Spaniards tend to prefer fresh grapes with a good colour. Sicilian produce is arriving as well as a little from Apulia."

Gaetano concludes by saying that, whereas grape sales on the Italian market are quite slow, the export campaign is doing better.
