Edeka: German's number one supermarket chain

The German grocer developed quite well in 2013, reports the German website Fruchthandel.de. Revenue, which only counts food category products, has further increased to 180.2 billion Euro in 2013, up from 175.3 billion Euro in 2012, this information coming from market research from Nielsen TradeDimensions.

The Edeka Group was number one on the top five list of grocers in the country in 2013, according to this research. With revenue of around 50.1 billion Euro Edeka had a market share of 20.7%. After Edeka came Rewe. Rewe had a slightly higher revenue than last year (37.5 billion Euro) and a market share of 15.5%. Following Rewe came the Schwarz Group, they saw a 4.9% increase and revenue of 32 billion Euro. The Metro Group came in fourth place with a small decline in revenue, while the Aldi Group, who came in last, saw 4.1% increase in revenue.
