Cherry crop higher than expected in BC
Caroline Martin of Cherrybrook Farms exports her cherries throughout North America. “Cherries grown in Creston are the best around,” states Martin, “The soil and the weather make for strong, sweet cherries.” No specific cherry is in higher demand than others, but the consumer favourites like lapin and bing remain in strong contenders.
To make the cherry pick that much sweeter, growers are supporting an organic initiative which involves a mixture of organic and conventional practices. The implementation of this mixed method allow for growers to be “organic as possible” but still allow for safe consumption of cherries.
