Switzerland: more money needed for research on Asian fruit fly

The Asian fruit fly caused significant damage to stonefruit and berries in Switzerland this year. Swiss member of parliament Bruno Pezzatti now asks in a Federal Assembly motion to make more money available in the future for research and education. This is reported by German website Gabot.de.

This motion from Bruno Pezzatti, FDP parliamentarian and board member of the 'Schweizer Obstverband', was co-signed by 34 members of parliament. According to Pezzatti, funds will have to be increased by 2.5 million Swiss francs (2.07 million Euro) over the next five years. The reason he gives for this, is that the small insect has caused significant economical damage this year. The measures that have been taken up to now, were not sufficiently effective.
