Spain: Raspberry production up 8 % this year

Spain's raspberry production has reached 11,380 tonnes; an increase of 8 % compared to the previous season. Of the total, around 100 tonnes were shipped to the processing industry.

Regarding the price for this berry, it has dropped by 5 %, although, given the increase in production, the total revenue has grown by 8.6 % compared to last year, with a total of 76.1 million Euro.

Until March, the country's raspberry exports, which accounted for 95 % of the production, increased by 30 %; however, during May and early June, due to the emergence of local producers with the arrival of warmer temperatures in the two main destination countries for Huelva's raspberries, the UK and Germany, supply volumes increased, resulting in greater competition. As a result, prices this year have experienced a drop and the campaign finished almost a month earlier than usual in the case of the remontant varieties (with two harvests: autumn and spring-summer).

Production data up until May.

Both the blueberry and blackberry harvests started in April and the campaigns are still going, although at a much slower pace.
