First shipment of Chilean fruit 2013/2014 arrived to the U.S.

The Coral Mermaid, a ship operated by Global Reefers that contained the first shipment of Chilean fruit for the 2013/2014 season arrived to the Port of Wilmington (USA) on Wednesday December 18th.

Over 756,000 boxes of fresh cherries, blueberries, stonefruit and table grapes arrived at the maritime terminal.

The Port of Wilmington is scheduled to receive at least 25 shipments of fruits from Chile, from the ports of Valparaiso, Coquimbo and Caldera.

It's worth noting that Global Reefers was born of the union of the Chilean fruit industry's largest shipping group, Pacific Seaways, and the Dutch company Seatrade, the world's largest owner and operator of specialized reefer ships. Global Reefers is currently the only shipping company that provides a direct express service from Chile to the Port of Wilmington.

"The arrival of the Coral Mermaid marks the fourth consecutive year that Wilmington has had the opportunity of supporting our Chilean partners and the commercial interests of our local customers who have access to the freshest fruit for this holiday season," said Gene Bailey, the port's executive director.
