"Ann Beyne, Tomabel: "Tomabel now offers organic mushrooms"

"Being a cooperative offers more possibilities"

Tomabel recently changed from an association to a cooperative society. Ann Beyne, sales representative of Tomabel said: "This establishment is an important step towards the further professional business development of Tomabel. When we started back in 1995 we never expected Tomabel to grow so much. It was not the plan and we were ok working as an association, however, as a cooperative there are more opportunities for growth."

In May Tomabel celebrated their 18th year and in close cooperation with REO auction have grown into a quality brand. "Cooperation with the auction makes it a lot easier. We are now both cooperatives and growers are quicker to join us. As a cooperative you are taken more seriously."

Since September this year, Tomabel have offered organic mushrooms. "We have organic oyster and brown mushrooms. The rest of our products are still available and if we extend the organic range that will be in white mushrooms. We have introduced these organic products at the request of our customers and supply these directly. We are satisfied with the production of the product."

Ann hopes for good times over the holidays. "Hopefully lettuce will increase in price. Most products are selling well. At the moment there is an available supply of tomatoes but at the end of December, start of January we are expecting a lot to come in from growers who use illuminated cultivation."
