Almeria

Spain: Italy main client for oranges; Germany for mandarins and lemons

According to a report from Andalusia's Council of Agriculture, Fisheries and Environment, between January and September this year, Almeria's citrus companies exported 3.7 million kilos of oranges, mandarins and lemons, which is 18.5% less than in the same period of 2012. However, as a result of the better prices achieved, the province's firms made a total of 21.4 million Euro in revenue; 11% more than last year.

The value of Almeria's orange exports amounted to 11.3 million Euro; 10.5% more than in the same period last year. The main destination for the province's exports were Italy (around 38.5%), followed by Germany (22.4%), and France (17.3%). Other destinations include Algeria, Romania, the Netherlands, Poland, Belgium and Russia. Almeria is Spain's ninth largest orange exporter, with 1.3% of the total.

During the same period, Almeria's lemon exports made 5.5 million Euro in revenue; 10.6% more than in 2012. Germany is the main destination for these, with 31.3% of the total, followed by Italy and Belgium (17%). France, Romania, Poland and Russia also import Almeria's lemons. The province is Spain's seventh largest exporter of this fruit, with 1.7% of the total.

Mandarin sales made a total of 3.8 million Euro in revenue, which is 4.3% more than in 2012. The main destination for this fruit was also Germany, with 22% of the total, followed by Italy (20%) and Poland (18.2%). Other importers include the Netherlands, France, Russia, Ukraine and Romania. Almeria is Spain's eighth largest mandarin exporter, with 0.7% of the total.
