According to the president of the Association of Vegetable Producers of Yaqui and Mayo (APHYM), Carlos Alberto Esquer López, the Valley of Yaqui's asparagus acreage is expected to increase for the current 2013/2014 agricultural cycle.
The president of APHYM stated that, due to the current good demand for asparagus in markets such as the United States, Canada or China, the crop's cultivation is planned to expand in southern Sonora.
Carlos Alberto says that while 2,120 hectares of asparagus were cultivated last season, a total of 2,470.70 hectares have already been authorised so far for the campaign that has just recently started.
