The clash between fruit market traders and the people from the Auqui Basilio Association, which started early on Monday morning, continues.
The people from the association captured one of the other leaders known as Pelagia.
"She is one of the leaders of this confrontation, we've waited for them to withdraw for years but nothing has happened so far, the authorities haven't taken any action on this matter," said the neighbours of the Basilo Auqui association.
They also indicated that they were going to ask for personal guarantees as the merchants had made death threats.
The emergency squad of Peru's National Police, the prosecutor on duty and the staff of the Provincial Municipality of Huamanga arrived to the site.
Meanwhile, some traders were dismayed by the confrontation.
"They won't listen to us. They destroyed our workplaces. We have families, you know, how are we supposed to make a living?" asked a fruit marketer as she cried inconsolably.
Other traders enraged by the situation indicated that since they had been insulted and had been treated like thieves they had decided to defend themselves, fight to the end and continue gaining terrain.
The president of the Auqui Basilio Association, Raul Arce said that they still hadn't reached an agreement with the merchants.
"They threatened us with death so some partners have taken radical measures of their own," he said.
