HAL appoints two new Board Directors
The new Directors, Mr Craig Musson and Mr Mark Napper, share the commitment of HAL’s eight other Board Members to driving the future of the Australian horticulture sector.
Mr Musson runs WAFEX, a vertically integrated flower business comprising breeding, production and marketing. With offices in Perth, Melbourne, Kenya and the USA, WAFEX is a global business, trading in 26 countries. Mr Musson’s speciality is in strategic planning, business excellence and international trade. Before immigrating to Australia in 1991, Mr Musson ran a leading floriculture growing operation in Zimbabwe.
Mr Napper has 29 years’ experience in Australian agribusiness, 21 of which have been in horticulture. He owns a fruit orchard in Bangalow NSW and operates a business sales and consulting firm. Mr Napper’s background extends along the supply chain from grower to retailer, both domestic and international. He is currently President of Low Chill Australia Inc, and was a Director of Summerfruit Australia Ltd and an independent Director of AUSVEG Ltd before being appointed a HAL Director.
With HAL undergoing its Review, Mr Napper said joining the Board at this pivotal time is exciting and a privilege. “As a Board Director, I am looking forward to working with government and HAL Members to formulate and implement a new framework and system that will deliver more efficient and effective returns to growers,” he said.
“Our industry is diverse, innovative and vibrant. It is a significant sector in Australian agriculture and a significant contributor to the Australian economy. The results of the Review must ensure that in partnership with Member industries and government, we enable a viable and long term future for Australian horticulture producers.”
Mr Musson said he was looking forward to the year ahead. “As an exporter of 23 years, I’m excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for all horticultural producers,” he said. “I see great opportunities for the organisation to build on what’s been achieved so far.”
The two vacancies on the Board were created by the retirement of Ms Susan Carter and Mr Ray Johnson who did not stand for re-election at the end of their three-year term while Mr David Cliffe was re-elected.
