Icons strawberries Ethiopia at Fruit World Breda, NL

Fruit World Breda, The Netherlands received the first strawberries from Ethiopia today. The strawberries are supplied in the new top segment pack 'icons' of Fruit World Breda/Best Fresh Group. We are very happy that this supplier supports our vision/strategy and makes it possible to satisfy the quality standard. The strawberries are delivered by air three to four times a week. "This year the volume will increase by 20%" Wout van Es of Fruit World Breda tells.

"The area and the number of plants have increased in Israel with the result that
the yield per plant is bigger. Because of intensive contact between grower and
Fruit World Breda we have increased the area this year in order to satisfy the increasing demand."

The strawberries originate from Ilan Tot and are grown to a height of 1,200 meters. "In combination with the strong concentration of sunlight this results in a very sweet taste," he mentions. They have, according to him, an average brix value of minimum 8. Wout also tells that very few plant protection means are used and the correct manure is used resulting in a healthier plant.

Wout expects to enter a positive season. "We also notice that supermarkets appreciate the product more and more, that the quality and appearance are on a different level and they are prepared to pay a higher price for them."

The strawberries from Ethiopia are of the variety Yoval. This year we have also got other varieties, which can satisfy even more requirements of certain customers. Fruit World expects to receive strawberries from Morocco/Egypt/Israel and Palestine from next week.
