According to the National Statistics Institute (INEI), the volume of asparagus exports grew 5.1 percent in the first nine months of the year.
The INEI points out that asparagus led the ranking of non-traditional products of the agricultural sector in the period between January and September 2013.
Asparagus exports grew above the average, 2 percent, recorded by the agricultural sector.
Following the growth in volumes of shipped asparagus, are mangoes (11.5 percent), the avocado (25.2 percent) and the grapes (2.1 percent), among others, which have led agricultural exports to a favourable outcome.
The main countries of destination of asparagus exports were the USA, Spain, the UK, The Netherlands and France.
The INEI stated that asparagus exports grew 61.4 percent from 2004 to 2012, and that their record high was recorded in 2011.
