Brisbane Markets Limited (BML) has paid tribute to its long serving board member, former Queensland Premier Michael Ahern AO, who retired his directorship today at the annual general meeting.
BML Chairman Tony Joseph thanked Mr Ahern who he called a “guiding light” to his fellow board members, particularly through the early years of BML’s establishment, in 2002, when Queensland’s only Central Market hub became industry owned.
It is 11 years since BML made its landmark purchase of the then 72 hectare site at Rocklea, placing its ownership into the hands of the industry stakeholders, the people who best knew how to operate and development the Queensland industry.
In farewelling Mr Ahern, Mr Joseph welcomed replacement board member, Stuart Lummis, who will take up the independent director’s role. He joins Mr Joseph and fellow directors Bruce Hatcher, Simon George, Noel Greenhalgh, Tony Kelly, Peter Tighe and Andrew Young.
Mr Lummis brings to the board more than 30 years’ experience as a senior executive with 15 years as a non-executive director on several boards. He has extensive property development and construction, facilities management and asset ownership, property financing and equity structuring expertise.
