Argentina: Supermarket sales increase by more than 25%

According to INDEC's Supermarket Survey, sales in the supermarkets in the Province of Neuquén amounted to 1,942 million pesos (about $ 321 million dollars) in the first half of 2013, 25.2% more when compared to the same period of 2012.

The report states that "Total sales correspond to monetary values and include the marketing of food and beverages in the supermarkets, the strongest category of all."

The report adds "the changes recorded in the first six months of 2012 and 2011 were similar, 26.4% and 25.2 % in the last inter-period."

The report also points out that three new outlets were opened between 2011 and 2013, while the space allocated to sales grew 3.3 percent between the first semesters of 2012 and 2013.

It also specifies that " there has been an increase in the average value of operations performed, associated with the tickets issued by the cash registers, from 115 pesos ($19 dollars) in the first half of 2011 to 178 pesos ($29 dollars) in the first half of 2013."

The survey is conducted in commercial companies whose sales area exceeds 300 square meters.
