Mexico: Fear that cold could damaged citrus crops

Citrus crops would be the most affected by the low temperatures that have been forecast for this winter season.

Pineda Nazario said that, so far, the cold and the moisture have benefited production more than it has hurt it. However, he noted, we don't know how we'll fare if there is a frost.

He said that, historically, the first productions affected are always the ones in the highlands of Huasteca, in places such as Xilitla, Aquismón, Huehuetlán, Axtla and the surrounding areas.

He added that, to date, that their greatest concern was the citrus production and the new crops in the plains, as they have just started planting in this autumn-winter cycle because the rains had not allowed them to do so before.
