Mild winter means kiwi production shortage in Greece

Unfortunately Greece is experiencing a shortage in kiwifruit production this year, due a mild winter. Compared to the previous year, losses have reached up to 35% in the main production areas such as the Pieria region.

Farmer returns are expected to be 20% higher in respect to last season.
This shortage of production, will create contrasts between client expectations and actual deliveries. It had been possible to open new profitable markets with great potential the last two seasons, however, it will be a struggle to serve at a satisfactory levels this season. Furthermore, despite great demand the Greek kiwi has been experiencing during the last few years, it seems that this season will be a season to preserve markets rather than to expand.
