The Regulatory Board of the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) Kaki Ribera del Xúquer will spread information about fruit and vegetables with a differentiated quality seal in France, Italy and Germany with the aid of a program co-funded by the European Union and the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture.
The Board reported that the program, which will receive 3.9 million Euro in the next three years, aims to gain recognition for PGI/PDO brands.
The president of the Regulatory Board, Cirilo Arnandis, showed his satisfaction, as he considers that fruits and vegetables with differentiated quality brands, such as Ribera del Xúquer kakis, present specific characteristics that make them stand out as unique.
"These products constitute a guarantee for consumers as regards their origin, production and development methods and quality controls, and they are additionally an important part of our gastronomic heritage," he assured.
The PDO Kaki Ribera del Xúquer has recently started a communication campaign in Spain aimed towards the entire agro-food chain, with the goal of informing about the correct use of the Persimon brand and prevent misuse of the term.
Producers, traders, large distributors, wholesalers, retailers, press and consumers will then know that only hard fruits of the Bright Red variety from Ribera del Xúquer and certified by the Regulatory Board of the PDO can be marketed under the Persimon brand.
