Capespan Group Ltd has appointed Leon van Biljon as its new chief executive officer of fruit marketing, effective 1 February 2014. This leadership role will take charge of all fruit businesses globally, except for South Africa and Namibia.
Announcing the appointment, Capespan group managing director Johan Dique said Van Biljon’s extensive fruit industry experience was well-suited to taking the reins in the execution of the renewed strategy in the fruit division. “With our focus on being successful at the front end customer level, his market development, customer relationship and leadership skills would be of considerable benefit in continuing to build strong alliances, growing the business and provide guidance and leadership to all of our marketing companies.”
“The revised approach of Capespan has necessitated the acquisition of the best industry talent to support a rejuvenated structure. As fruit marketer of choice to customers world-wide, we supply fresh fruit all year round under our globally recognised brands, together with value-added services through a cost-effective supply chain.”
With a stellar track record in the fruit industry, Van Biljon holds a B Comm from Stellenbosch University and an Honours degree in Economics from the US. He had various management roles at Dole South Africa prior to his recent position as business director of Dole Europe. Leon and his family will relocate from Germany back to South Africa to take up this new challenge.
