The production of table grapes in Peru continues to increase. The harvest was almost 300,000 tonnes in 2012, which is 3% more than in 2011. This development, which was noticeable in all production areas, is linked to the yearly increase of 5 to 10% of the area. In 2011 it was 16,500 ha: on the long term they are hoping for an area of 20,000 ha.
At 305,000 tonnes the yield isn't increasing by that much this year. This is due to the unfavourable weather conditions (cold and little rain). Despite this, the production, which started at the beginning of October, is not delayed. In the second half of November there will be a lot of table grapes from Peru traded on the European market. The European market is the main sales market at around 40,000 tonnes. The United States accounted for 25,400 tonnes in 2012, and a considerable amount was also exported to Asia. In total the export is around 150,000 to 170,000 tonnes of the production.
