Sufficient supply of colourful lettuce from German cultivation

The market situation for colourful lettuce remains in balance in Germany, reports the German Agricultural Market Information bureau (AMI) on their website. Due to the slow growth of the multi-coloured lettuce varieties, true harvest potential is incalculable.

The rainy weather throughout big parts of Germany was also not helpful for the qualitative development of the crops which can increase failure rates. There is, at present, no pressure from the supply side.

In recent times demand for other lettuce varieties has fallen. According to the AMI this has not affected market stability. In particular marketing of Lollo types is currently progressing well but sales of oak leaf lettuce are not as smooth, but not disappointing, so prices remain at current levels but do not show potential.

Thanks to the prediction that many parts of Germany will be drier and warmer, supply from German open fields should be able to meet demand. For imports, the gates remain largely closed.
