Avocado production could increase by 17.2% in 2013, in comparison to the previous year due to the favourable weather conditions, according to projections made by the consultant Maximixe today.
Furthermore, the avocado production volume would benefit from increased access to water, use of new acres and appropriate management of technology, which would lead to a 12% growth in yields.
The avocado production amounted to 127,000 tonnes between January and May 2013, representing a yearly growth of 9.6% due to the internal and external demand.
Maximixe also estimated that the avocado production would grow 15.6% in 2014 due to the increase in young lands for cultivation, mainly located in the northern coastal valley, in Viru and Chao, in the department of La Libertad.
According to the Market Structure and Avocado Trend Report, this year's production is expected to amount to 336,100 tonnes of avocados.
The consultant said that farmers are benefiting from the agricultural financing programs offered by Agroideas and Apropalto, which have been approving multiple business plans for avocado growers associations, especially in the regions of Ancash and Moquegua.
