25% less strawberries this season

Seatrade Egypt signs deal to supply Emcocal varieties

Seatrade Group are a group of companies in Egypt, USA and the UK, Seatrade Egypt has recently signed a license agreement with Emcocal in the USA, to grow and export their strawberry varieties in and out of Egypt. Seatrade also develops and owns farms throughout Egypt.

The company specializes in citrus, strawberries and onions.

Seatrade Europe is an importing and trading company in the UK which handles various European markets and is the sole distributor to Seatrade Egypt in Europe.

Seatrade Egypt is the main exporter in the El Qualyoubeya region for the Emcocal strawberry varieties and is licensed to handle the Fortuna, Festival, Winter Dawn and Ileana varieties.

Strawberry volumes are expected to be tight this year. "We anticipate volume drops of approx. 25% less than last year," explains Tamer Elkelany from the company. "Prices are expected to be stronger this year due lesser volumes, higher operating costs in Egypt, stronger domestic demand as well as higher freight costs."

Seatrade Egypt have started this year a new bio treatment program for their strawberries, with this program they hope to deliver better quality, healthier strawberries.

"We have also developed the Saturn brand that is one of the leading brands known for consistency and high quality as well as price competitiveness," states Elkelany.

"Our main strawberry markets are Egypt, and in Europe: the UK, Holland and Spain as well as the Middle and Far East."
