Italy: An important partnership for Belgian endives with French brand Prestige

Fruttital, located in Albenga (Liguria) is the main distributor of imported produce in Italy and supplies Belgian endives the whole year round, despite the fact that the peak of production is between November and May.

As Gilberto Rossi (in the photo), marketing manager, said, "The produce imported from France, Netherlands and Belgium is available the whole year round. We get our supplies from the leading Belgian and Dutch producers and we distribute those brands that guarantee high quality and volumes."

The partnership with the French "Prestige" brand is particularly relevant, as the Italian importer has been the exclusive distributor on the Italian territory for 20 years.

"We have contributed to the promotion of Belgian endives in Italy also thanks to the various communication campaigns."

Fruttital sells the same amounts of supermarkets and wholesalers. "The most popular packaging in Italy is 500 gr trays with 3-5 plants. 5 kg of loose produce are also popular."

As regards the current market trend, Gilberto Rossi says, "Whilst in France the production is still not fully under way because of the weather, demand is high in all European countries, so at the moment we are selling at high prices above the average of the period."
